Columbia, SC—This year’s South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association Elite Camp was held at Keenan High School. Eighty-seven players from across the Palmettos State made the trip to participate in the one day showcase camp. The camp featured fifty-nine seniors, seventeen juniors, ten sophomores & one freshman. To start the day players were given a quick lecture on NCAA requirements then the action got underway. After the NCAA lecture players then went through a series of five stations geared for skill development & then the games got underway.

MJ Rhett, SCBA Camp MOP
2010 Review
From start to finish MJ Rhett was the best player at the camp. One word describes his performance, dominant. Rhett scored in the paint on post moves at will, rebounded, block shots, & even knocked down a couple of 3s. One of his many highlights was a dunk over Mike Green on an offensive put back. The 6’8 lefty looks to be in top shape & made a case for the #1 ranking in the senior class. The 6th Man Basketball staff named him Most Outstanding Player at the Camp.
College of Charleston recruit Jordan Scott did his usual damage behind the arc. Scott also had a couple of athletic dunks on fast breaks.
Torrey Craig had a very productive day. He made threes, got on the offensive glass & scored on drives to the basket. Craig really impressed with his passing ability when help defense came.
Big man Carlton Geathers put together a couple of solid performances on the day. Geathers was able to use his mammoth size to help establish great post position & scored almost every time he touched it. His team did a good job of feeding him & he took advantage of the opportunities.
Mike Green had a nice one handed tip dunk but he was pretty much quiet other than that.
South Carolina recruit RJ Slawson had an overall solid day. Slawson made a couple of threes & displayed his athleticism on a baseline drive that he finished with a two handed dunk. The 6’8 forward was very active on the glass & altered a load of shots around the rim.
Josh Corry didn’t focus on scoring as much at the camp but looked to make plays for others. The Wofford recruit still scored on strong drives & deep threes. Corry is a natural scorer but did a good job of getting others involved as well as looking for his own shot.
Devonte Wright was solid all day. He seemed to make every open shot & made every right pass. Wright has nice quickness & a good looking shot. Another one of his strengths is that he is multi-positional.
Dontae Shuler may have been the hardest playing player at the camp especially on defense. Shuler really mixed things up defensively by applying full court pressure on the opposite point man. He was able to get a number of steals this way & more than his share of loose balls. The scrappy guard did most of his damage on offense with strong drives to the rim for layups & a few assists.
DeMario Pendarvis had a very good day at the office. Pendarvis used his shooting ability & skill to score throughout the day. The 6’6 power forward also did a good job of getting weak side offensive put backs. He did a great job of fighting for post position & was superb on defense by playing defense before his man got the ball. Pendarvis is not a super athlete but counters that with a face up & back to the basket game.
6’9 Jared Guest was very active on the offensive glass getting dunks & put backs. He even managed to score a couple of times in the low post but his activity on the glass was where he did his most damage.
Eren Moses did a good job of getting to the rim & attacking the offensive glass. The 6’4 small forward from Sumter was a menace on the glass & has a good motor.
Lance White seemed to make shot after shot. The 6’3 wing from Airport did his damage with pull ups off the bounce & strong finishes at the rim.
Mikel Trapp did his usual damage behind the arc & did a fine job of handling the ball at the point.
Joel Cook may have the best footwork of any big at the camp. The 6’9 senior from Easley is a big tennis star & showed some promise scoring with his back to the basket.
Justin Peeples seemed to never miss a shot during game play. The 5’9 PG from Wade Hampton played very poised at the point & was very effective with his mid range shooting.
2011 Review
Antonio “TO” Cannon made some big shots & did a good job of playing both guard shots. He had a couple of times where he put up buckets in bunches. Cannon really has good size to play the point & shooting guard positions.
Quayshun Hawkins did a good job of creating offense for himself. He should have a big scoring year at Dreher. Hawkins created space for threes & also got to the rim for easy baskets.
Ricardo Martin did a good job on the offensive glass coming from the wing. He also knocked down a handful of open threes from the corners.
DJ Coleman has good size for a point guard. He did a good job of finishing in traffic & scored on hustle points.
Fred Mattison was a menace on the boards. The 6’6 forward was efficient behind the arc in one game making 3/4 attempts. He played with great energy & relentlessly went after rebounds.
Jeremy & Josh Clinkscales played extremely hard & defended better than any over players at the camp. The 6’0 SG twins from Irmo are identical in appearance & talent. Both twins are at their best when attacking the rim on offense with strong drives, pressing up on ball handlers & playing the passing lanes on defense. Both Clinkscales displayed the ability to knock down the three at the camp.
2012 Review
Greg Wilson played like he was trying to make a case for top sophomore in the state. Wilson scored on drives, dribble pull ups, & threes. He did a good job of using his size to score over defenders.
Jordan Roper was on a team full of point guards & this freed him up to score. He did a good job of using his mid range game but never really got it going from deep. He did a good job of getting deflections on defense by playing the passing lanes.
Travis Hammond never really got into a rhythm on offense but was able to knock down a few from long range. He did a fine job on the glass. Hammond is geared to have a breakout season at Richland Northeast.
Manzey Miller was one of the few underclassmen selected for the All Star game. Miller used his body well to fend off defenders & shot the ball well from the outside.
Brandon Jones could very well be the most talented sophomore in the state but didn’t play extremely hard at the camp.
2013 Review
Michael Williams was the only freshman that participated at the camp & made quite an impression. The 6’2 guard from Lake Marion (Santee, SC) displayed a sweet three point shooting stroke, scored on a few drives, got some trash baskets, & competed on the defensive end. He should be one of the top freshmen in the state. Williams has the savvy & feel to be a point guard.
