North Carolina Evaluations | South Carolina Evaluations

Columbia, SC – October 10, 2009 marked the beginning of the annual North Carolina vs. South Carolina Battle of the Classes.  The Battle of the Classes featured the top talent from the bordering states.  The Tar Heel State swept the series 3-0.

2010-North Carolina had far much more talent in this game but the South Carolina team almost came away with a win.  It took a late run from N.C. to win the game 102-96.  N.C. was led by Ian Miller & Jordan Downey.  Miller, a Florida State commit was named MVP & helped stage N.C.’s late run.  He finished with 17 points.  Jordan Downey was the most consistent player for N.C. from start to finish. Downey is committed to Davidson.  S.C. was led by the hard playing Josh Corry.  Corry, a Wofford commit, scored 28 points and did not shoot his best from behind the arc.  College of Charleston recruit, Jordan Scott had some bright spots for S.C. Scott made some big shots & finished on athletic drives.  One surprise from the 2010 game was 6’6 Forward Torrey Craig.  Craig did a nice job using his athleticism on the glass & displayed a decent touch behind the arc for S.C. Craig was the winner of the Slam Dunk Contest.

2011-South Carolina was truly outmatched in this game.  North Carolina ran away with this game at the opening tip.  N.C. walked to victory 78-64.  N.C. was led by Bernard Sullivan & P.J. Hairston.  These two had their way anywhere on the court during the game.  Marquis Rankin seems to be pretty close to full speed.  Rankin picked apart the defense with his quickness, ball handling & passing skills.  S.C.’s top dog was Damien Leonard.  Leonard struggled early to find his stroke but got things going eventually.  Ike Harris also impressed for the S.C. team.  The 6’8 250 Center really made some nice moves & rebounded well on the defensive end for S.C.  Corey Littlejohn got into a rhythm for S.C. during the second half by making strong drives & showing his athleticism at the rim.

2012-This should have been the best game of the day & it was for a half.  Both teams went into the half deadlocked at 36 but once the second half started N.C. pulled away to take a 20 point lead.  S.C. eventually cut the lead down to 10 and lost 65-75.  N.C. pulled away behind the solid point guard play of Tyler Lewis & athleticism of Montrezl Harris.  Lewis impressed with his basketball IQ & passing ability.  Harris looked like a young Leon Powe or Ben Wallace on the glass.  S.C. top player was point guard Jordan Roper.  Roper is a lefty who plays hard, has good athleticism and anticipates extremely well on defense.  He also has a smooth mid range stroke.  Brandon Jones, the brother of South Carolina big man, Sam Muldrow, made some athletic plays & showed the ability to knock down the three-ball.
