6th Man Basketball Super Showcase Recap 2009 Part A
Rashaad Richardson - Oldsmar Christian Columbia, SC—As Williams-Brice Stadium hosted South Carolina vs. Kentucky; 6th Man Basketball hosted 120 basketball players at the University of South Carolina’s Practice/Volleyball Facility. Players represented the states of Georgia, Florida, Virginia, and North & South Carolina. The Super Showcase Director was former Lander University assistant Sean Mims. Coach Mims welcomed the players before he led them in a series of intense full court drills. Mims shouted positive instructions to the players during the workout which focused on being footwork, dribble moves & being ball friendly. After the hour long workout, players were placed on their teams & team play got under way. Coach Mims continued to direct the players during team play, encouraging players to share the ball, screen, give the post players touches & to have fun. It was definitely a great basketball atmosphere. The Super Showcase gives the 6th Man Basketball Staff a chance to discover & evaluate players. It also gives players an opportunity to display their talents & a chance for them to bond with other players from other areas. The Super Showcase will help players fulfill dreams of becoming college basketball players. The best player at the Super Showcase was Rashaad Richardson. The senior missed this past July with a minor knee injury but made everything look easy Saturday. Richardson looked liked the player we first saw during his sophomore year. The 6’4 wing from Charleston, SC (Oldsmar Christian-FL) scored in a number of ways but he was clinical behind the arc. He really looked good on pull ups using dribble moves to get open looks. It looks like his decision to migrate to Florida for his senior season is paying off. 2010 Jared Guest made his way to the Super Showcase after taking the SAT Saturday morning. The 6’9 senior from Richland Northeast (Columbia, SC) played like he had been at the Practice Facility all day long. Guest made athletic finishes around the rim, rebounded with authority, & altered or blocked a number of shots. 6’4 shooting guard Kenny Reed from Columbia power Keenan seemed a little more comfortable than when we last saw him at the NC vs. SC Battle of the Classes. Reed made nice drives to the rim & had a few athletic finishes. He never really got it going from deep but he sure does look good shooting it. We look forward to seeing more of him. 2011 6’8 junior big man Ike Harris from Dutch Fork (Irmo, SC) seems to get better every time we watch him play. We all know big men do not get many touches in these types of events but Harris made strong moves to the basket when the ball was passed inside to him. He also did a good job of controlling the paint by using his huge size. Another big man in the junior class who seems to get a little better each day is 6’9 Jacob Carson from Goose Creek (Goose Creek, SC). Carson is still a prospect & not much player to date but gives a super effort. He was active on the offensive class & knocked down a couple of 15 footers. Jacquez Rozier is a 6’5 wing out of Burke County, Georgia. The junior had his moments during the day. He plays harder than anyone else on the floor. Rozier showed the ability to scarp on the inside & play on the perimeter with the guards. We would like to see him tighten his handle & become more consistent from the outside. Ron Trapp is a 6’3 shooting guard from Lancaster (Lancaster, SC) who has a rep for being a shooter but he looked great slashing to the rim Saturday. He will be the leader for a Lancaster team who is primed to make a run for the South Carolina State Title. 2012 Sophomore guard Greg Wilson made the trip from North Myrtle Beach & took some players on a trip during the Super Showcase. The 6’3 combo guard can really get the rim but at times seems to settle for threes in which he is very capable of making. But why launch up threes when you can beat your guy to the rim with ease? Wilson has a chance to become a very good basketball player once he adds some strength & becomes a tad more assertive. Brandon Jones used his athleticism & length to get the rim and score all day. Jones could end up being a highly recruited player once he fully develops into a fulltime wing. Right now he is transforming from a power forward to a small forward. The 6’5 sophomore from Wilson (Florence, SC) is the young brother of current South Carolina Gamecock Sam Muldrow. 2015 Guest
PJ Dozier, #1 7th Grader in the USA PJ Dozier checked in at the Super Showcase & lived up to his reputation as the top 7th Grader in the nation. Dozier is a gifted player who has a high skill set & incredibly high basketball IQ. He fit right in with the older crowd & really impressed us with his demeanor on the floor. Dozier has a calmness about himself out on the floor & is an excellent passer who seemed to make the right pass every play. |
